"SOMETHINGNESS" - 30 x 36 wooden canvas mixed media

My favorite movie growing up was The Neverending Story. 🐉 A kid, a warrior, a flying dog-dragon… then they kill a horse in a swamp and introduce a villain called The Nothing. Children’s movies used to have absolutely no respect for children. “What are you afraid of?” “An abstract manifestation of existential emptiness.” “Okay. Well, Tyler is afraid of bees.”

The whole movie is imagination fighting The Nothing, which is pretty much my brain. 🧠🎨 I have thousands of ideas demanding to be made and 24 hours to choose which ones survive. Some get picked. Some get sacrificed. The rest are sitting in the Beetlejuice waiting room holding ticket 8,793 while the sign says NOW SERVING: 14. 👻

Every piece I make is a mishmash of ideas I’ve suppressed for decades. No canvas can hold everything in my head, so every once in a while I open the asylum doors and let a few escape. This one is called Somethingness: 30 x 36, mixed media, resin, and glass neon light. Then I post it online, 46 people see it, 44 are probably bots, and The Nothing wins again. 💀
